In-house Services

Anyone may consult government publications in Ramsey Library or receive assistance in locating government information. Please ask a Reference Librarian to help you. If your request involves extensive research, it may be referred to the Documents Staff. The Documents Office hours are Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Specialized classroom instruction or library presentations, tailored to meet the needs of any UNCA course assignment, can be scheduled. Please contact Bryan Sinclair to set up a time for your class to visit the library.

Collections

Ramsey Library has been a selective depository for United States government publications since 1965 and for North Carolina state government publications since 1989. The Library receives approximately 15% of available federal publications and 35% of North Carolina state documents. Other nearby depositories are at the libraries of Western Carolina University and Appalachian State University. Taken together, all three depositories hold approximately two-thirds of all available federal publications. ASU is a full microfiche depository for North Carolina documents.

To make coordinated collection development easier, we have compiled several lists based on current selection profiles of UNCA, ASU, and WCU, the current online List of Classes and the Periodicals Supplement to the Monthly Catalog of Government Publications:

There are records in the WNCLN library catalog for most documents issued since mid-1992 and for all currently received series.
